Project Overview

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is proposing use of an intelligent transportation system (ITS) along the I-40 corridor, from central Arkansas to West Memphis.β€―This project will include plans for alternative routing to keep traffic moving in the event of a major incident on I-40, along with new technology, such as message signs, cameras, wrong-way detections, signal modifications, and way-finding signs. Corridor and/or intersection widening is not planned as part of this project.

ARDOT will perform a Concept of Operations and Systems Engineering Analysis along the corridor, an I-40 safety analysis and operational analysis (Existing and Future 2045) with no diversions, a Highway 70 operational analysis with various diversion scenarios, and final plan development for ITS/traffic signalization.
